Blue Ribbon Rules

Format

  1. Best 9 races of the season
  2. Each racer needs a minimum of one completed run to qualify for each blue ribbon
  3. The season goes from December to November

 

Points

  1. Points are awarded for male and female
  2. 50 – 1st, 48 – 2nd, 46 – 3rd and so on down to 2 for 25th.
  3. If someone does not complete any runs in the race then they receive 0 points

 

Age Groups

  1. Two age groups, Under 13 and Over 13 in both male and female

 

Courses

  1. Two courses are used throughout the year. It is changed the first Blue Ribbon after the ERSA SL, usually around June or July.
  2. Personal Best times are taken from both courses.

 

Ties

  1. If two or more racers tie on times for a blue ribbon then they receive the same number of points. For example the two in joint 2nd would receive 48 points each and then the fourth place person would receive 44 points.
  2. At the end of the season if two or more racers tie on points then the positions are calculated in the following way;

 

Take the last 3 races in which all the tied competitors took part together and average out the times. The winner if the one with the best average.

 

 

Coaches Award

  1. The coaches award is presented at the end of the season and is decided on by the head coach and can be for whatever reason they choose.

 

Skier of the Year Award

  1. This is decided by the club skiers. Everyone that is a member has a vote.

 

Bib Numbers

The bib numbers remain in place throughout the whole season and new people, including those returning to the club after an absence, will be added to the end of the list.

 

Bib numbers are re-assigned for the first race of each season, i.e. December. The start order is based on the racers PB from the second course. Discretion is given to the race manager to insert racers without a PB into the relevant position depending on their ability, this applies to people who have been away from the club for the previous year but have return for the new season (such as those attending university or suffered and injury in the previous season).

 

Most Improved Skier

  1. This is awarded to the most improved male and female skier for the past year
  2. To qualify a racer needs to have a PB that is under 20 seconds but the first time can be above that but below 25 seconds.
  3. The racer must have competed in one or all of the first five Blue Ribbons of the season, i.e. Dec, Jan or Feb, Mar, Apr.
  4. If a racer did not start until the new season their time will be taken from the first race completed in either Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr.
  5. Need a minimum of 6 races to qualify
  6. To determine the winners the following calculation is used;

 

For those competitors that have competed in the previous year on both courses

Start PB for the year = (PB course 1 + PB course 2) / 2

Finish PB for the year = (PB course 1 + PB course 2) / 2

Most improved of the year = (Start PB – Finish PB)

 

For those competitors that have competed in the previous year on only the second course

Start PB for the year = PB course 2

Finish PB for the year = (PB course 1 + PB course 2) / 2

Most improved of the year = (Start PB – Finish PB)
